Learning With Marty

There is no other robot that offers the breadth of learning progression, from unplugged coding and block-based programming right through to Python!  Marty is a flexible STEM tool that grows with learners.  MartyBlocks Jr. based on Scratch Jr. is aimed at young children (age 5-7) and differs from any other introductory platform in that you see your Marty sprite from a bird’s eye view, with motion blocks mimicking Marty’s movements int he real world.

The Learning Portal houses curriculum-linked (CSTA and ISTE) teaching resources to enable educators to plan and deliver activities that meet success criteria.  Progressive learning paths are set out for all skill levels, with activities and guides that allow teachers to focus on facilitating learning experiences and reporting on progress, while students advance at a comfortable pace.  Students can develop their creative thinking and problem solving skills, while learning important concepts across the curriculum:  from computational thinking to numeracy, literacy and more.

New Features, New Marty! 2023

  • New Browser-based App for PCS & Tablets

  • New Sequencer to Aid Transition from Unplugged to Block-Based

  • New & Improved Sound Functionality

  • More Math Resources to Y7

  • LED Disco Eyes as Standard

Web App

Following the surge in uptake of “one-to-one” devices such as Chromebooks, we have developed a browser-based app in addition to our mobile app that allows students to program Marty on devices such as Chromebooks and PC’s using supported browsers:  Chrome, Edge and opera on web and Android.

Sequencer

A new update across all apps was released this year that is designed to bridge the gap from unplugged programming (using color-coding cards without a device) to MartyBlocks Jr.  The sequencer introduces step-by-step programming without the need to drag-and-drop; learners select individual operations/action one-at-a-time before runnign the full sequence of code for Marty.  This provides a scaffolded progression of learning for students.

New Sounds & Disco Eyes

Marty can now make a whole host of new sounds, using different pitches, volumes and accents thanks to new drag-and-drop sound blocks.  As well as choosing from the expanded library of pre-recorded sounds, you can even record your own!  What’s more, Marty can now play a wide variety of instruments including the piano, saxophone, electric guitar and ukelele.
